What do you do here? How do you influence Disproportionate Mindshare?
I founded the company on the idea that brands can compete by playing smarter and broadening their definition of marketing to include more options and embracing change as opportunity. As such, I'd say I'm the chief advocate and author of this idea–and team captain to a fearless group of true believers who improve on the foundation of the original thought, every day.
Where is your passion?
My passion is around invention and innovation. There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing that idea you thought of, or drew out on the whiteboard 6 months before, come to life. If I wasn't in this business, I'd want to build bridges or really amazing buildings.
What about your experiences make you uniquely qualified?
I spent a number of years in Marketing and Category Management in Drug and Grocery retail. If you're paying close attention, you get to see a lot of what works, what doesn't and how great products can change the game by making the right move at certain forks in the road. I got a different perspective on success that was bigger than what someone who spent their entire career in an Agency might have. You also understand that intermediaries beyond end users or consumers play a massive role in a brand's success or failure. You get a more holistic view.
What one thing outside of work do you do, that reflects your spirit?
I have a deep interest in history. From history, you learn that patterns are more recurring than you think at first glance AND that often we are in the midst of systemic change, but don't realize it until after the fact–except for the visionaries that can gain perspective in real time. I fundamentally believe that you create a better future by learning from your own and history's collective past. I also love movies, and their power, at their best, to tell bring a story to life and create emotion in a theater of skeptics.
